The District Wants to Pay Some Lab Teachers Less Than Others
All of the facts below come from the offers the YCCD (District) has made to faculty and the replies the faculty have given the District.
The data on how faculty is paid to teach labs can be found HERE. The entire offer from the District can be found HERE. The entire offer made by faculty can be found HERE.
Why are most lab classes paid only 45 minutes for every hour worked (75% pay)?
In the latest contract negotiations:
- The District wants to pay all lab classes only 45 minutes for every hour worked (even those few who are now paid for the whole hour).
- In contract negotiations, faculty are asking to maintain 1 hour of pay for 1 hour of work in lab classes that are already paid this way.
- Faculty are only seeking a moderate increase from 75% pay per lab hour to 85% pay per lab hour.
- The administration wants to standardize lab pay, but only by decreasing wages rather than making all labs equal at 1 hour of pay for 1 hour of work.
